Driven: Bentley Flying Spur V8

Driven: Bentley Flying Spur V8

The exterior is painted in Glacier White and we find Bourbon brown leather all over the interior. We’ve taken place in a Bentley Flying Spur V8 which would be perfect for Dubai. This car might be a bit too outstanding for the Netherlands but we would love to see this car on the Dutch streets. Especially the colours in the interior look amazing. It looks elegant and classic and looks great in combination with the exterior. Time to take off with this new Flying Spur. The car has driven only 2000 kilometers and the temperature outside has reached 30 degrees Celsius. Luckily we filled the fridge and the air conditioning works perfect!

The fridge is just one of the many luxurious details in this car. It’s great to be driven while you sit in the back of a Bentley and enjoy all the luxury in the car. Especially for the gadget freaks this car has a Smartphone like unit which lets you control almost the entire car. You can control the sun screens, the climate control and even the multimedia system. The adjustable back seat with massage function is something we can easily get used to. We had the chance to drive this Flying Spur V8 for two days and the serenity makes it very peaceful to drive this car, even when you’re speeding. The Bentley is so refined that it will make every other car feel uncomfortable. Bentley did all they could to make this car as comfortable as possible. The passengers as well as the driver won’t be short of anything. The suspension of the Bentley is adjustable in different modes. This car is built for luxury and comfort. People say that Rolls-Royce is the king in this class, but we don’t really agree. Bentley is just as luxurious and comfortable as a Rolls-Royce. The finish and the quality are perfect and that’s something every customer of Bentley will confirm. The model we drove had a price tag of up to 294.000 euro!

Engine-wise there’s not much to complain about. Besides the fact that a real Bentley customer might prefer the W12 over the V8. The V8 is introduced to attract more customers for the Flying Spur. Under the hood of the Flying Spur we find Bentley’s 4.0 liter biturbo V8 engine which produces 500 hp and 660 Nm of torque. This makes the Flying Spur sprint to 100 kph in just over 5 seconds. The top speed is just under 300 kph, 295 kph to be exact. During our test drive in Germany we easily reached 260 kph so it won’t be that hard to reach the top speed of the car. According to Bentley the car should be able to drive 895 kilometers on only one tank of gasoline. You will need a velvet foot and a lot of cruise control to do this but according to Bentley it’s possible.

Next to the fact that the real fanatics can recognize the V8 and W12 by their sound there are some other characteristics which shows us that you’re dealing with a V8. Subtle styling details including double chrome exhaust in the shape of an eight while the exhausts of the W12 are oval. Red accents instead of black for the Bentley logo, 19 inch alloy wheels and a black grille. It are details which will only stand out for real fanatics.

In the end it doesn’t really matter which version you drive because both cars are powerful enough. The only difference with the W12 is the amount of power which results in a faster acceleration and higher top speed. Something you won’t really notice because this isn’t a car which will be used for a drag race, this car is built to drive away with elegance. There’s no difference between the finish and the quality of the V8 and W12. We would know what to do, we would choose the V8 and use the 50.000 euro we save for choosing the V8 for some extra options. We would also choose this stunning white colour. We love these daring colour combinations and love to see this more often!
