A real classic: Ferrari 288 GTO

The real hardcore Ferrari still is the F40 or the Enzo. Already in 1984, Ferrari made a car which was fast and rare that you must call it an icon. And not just an icon, you can see this car as the “godfather” of the modern Ferrari’s. Recentely, a copy of this special model was spotted on a highway in Spain!

The letters GTO stand for Gran Turismo Omologata, or in English homologated. This has to do with the reason why this car was made. Ferrari wanted to compete in the Group B-rally. One condition to compete is the fact that you have to make 200 street legal copies of this car. Ferrari eventually made 272 copies of this car and this allowed Ferrari to compete. Later on Ferrari decided not to compete but luckily for us, they already made these cars so we can still enjoy this very special model!

Under the hood you find a 2.8 liters V8. This gives you 400 bhp and makes the car a real racer. The weight stays under the 1200 kilograms which made the car really fast. In only 4.9 seconds you will reach 100 km/h and if you want you can reach a maximum speed of 305 km/h. Still very fast for modern cars. The sad thing of the car is the fact that it doesn’t stand out as much as the F40 does. People who are not familiar with Ferrari will not know how special this model is. The car does have a powerful look, typical for all Ferrari’s. What do you prefer, a F40 or a 288 GTO?
