Spotted: Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG S W212

Mercedes-Benz suprised everyone this year by introducing a completely different E-Class AMG. The W212-generation is available as E 63 AMG and E 63 AMG S! The S is an unique AMG, because the car is equipped with four-wheel drive as a standard, to cause even more firework. It took just more than two weeks before the first copies were spotted.

The spotters did another good job, we compliment you for that! The tail of the new E-Class AMG looks quite different from the pre-facelift AMG. Only the diffuser, bumper and exhaust stayed relatively the same. But the part which changed most of the entire exterior is the front. First the car had very tight lines, now it all became smoother lines. The E 63 AMG S, like the car below, is the most powerful spec and can be recognized by just a few details. The most obvious one is the addition of the letter S to the AMG-logo at the back, further the A-wing of the S-models is finished in glossy black, the splitter in chrome. Also the S-models have 19-inch wheels where the normal AMG must roll on 18-inch ones.

The real changes can’t be seen, only be felt when you drive the car. The E in S-spec doesn’t have 557 bhp but 585 bhp and 800 Newtonmeters of torque. AMG offers this car with standard 4MATIC, four-wheeldrive. This is something we’ve never seen before on an AMG-saloon. Due the addition of the four-wheeldrive the performance seriously improved. Only 3.6 seconds are required to hit 100 kph with the AMG S, that’s just 0.2 seconds slower than the Ferrari 458 Italia! When you think about it these numbers are just ridiculous and unnecessary for a family car. Not only four-wheeldrive is added to the car, the car also has a limited slip-differential at the back as a standard. To make things even more serious, the S-models also have the AMG RIDE CONTROL-chassis with electronic steered damping. BMW’s M5 F10 is old-fashioned from now on. Mercedes-Benz and Audi show how to improve performance with four-wheeldrive to provoke supercars even more.
