Classic topspot: Ferrari 250 Tour de France

The 250 series of Ferrari is the series where the most models are designed and produced. The production of the entire series started in 1952 and ended in 1964. The following spot in our database is one of a Ferrari which dates from a period between 1955 and 1959. This spot is about a Ferrari 250 Tour de France which was spotted in Budapest by spotter Tuninglove.

The ‘250’ in the name stands for the displacement per cylinder, 250 cc. The 3.0 liters V12 produced 240 up to 280 hp. Ferrari used the 250 Tour de France for racing and it was quite successful in 1956. That year, Alfonso de Portago and Edmund Nelson won the Tour de France, a race that lasted one week. This was a great performance for Ferrari, definitely because they won from drivers and teams like Stirling Moss in his Mercedes-Benz 300SL. After this great performance, Ferrari added the name ‘Tour de France’ to this model. The Tour de France in 1956 wasn’t the only Tour de France they won with this car. The next three years, they also won the race.
