Here's the new updated BMW M4! Read on if you want to know more about this cool car...

In 2020, the current BMW 4 Series and M4 were unveiled. The M4 came as a coupe, a standard model, and a Competition version. Later, there was a Competition xDrive. All M4 models had a three-liter inline-six engine. The non-Competition model had 480 horsepower, while the Competition and Competition xDrive models had 510 horsepower. There was also a convertible, but it was only available as a Competition xDrive. This year, the 4 Series, and therefore the M4, underwent a facelift. The most significant changes were new headlights, taillights, bumpers, and a redesigned interior. In terms of technical specs, the only change was the Competition xDrive, which now produces 530 horsepower. This makes it slightly faster than the rear-wheel-drive versions. We've already seen the updated coupe and convertible on the website as Competition models, but not yet the "M4".
In 2022, a legendary name returned for this facelift: CSL. This focused and lighter version was the spiritual successor to the old M3 CSL. The inline-six had 550 horsepower, with a top speed of 307 km/h. It also shed a lot of weight, so it weighed just over 1,600 kg. The CSL had different taillights compared to the regular M4, yellow lighting, a more aggressive front, red accents, and a spoiler integrated into the trunk lid. Only 1,000 units were produced.

With the facelift, there's now a new top model, the CS. Like the CSL, it has 550 horsepower and, as with all CS models, it will be available in limited quantities. This usually means a production run of about a year. We saw this with the previous M3 and M4 CS, as well as the M5 CS. Before the facelift of the current BMW 3 Series and 4 Series, there was also an M3 CS. Now, as you look at the photos and read this, you might think it's just a cheaper CSL. Yes, it looks similar, but it's not quite the same. The M4 CS follows the same recipe as the M3 CS. This means it's slightly lighter and sharper than the standard M3/M4, but not too extreme. That was the CSL. To compare: the M4 CS is 20 kg lighter than the Competition, while the CSL is 75 kg lighter. The M4 CS has all-wheel drive, making it a bit faster in a sprint than the rear-wheel-drive CSL, 3.4 versus 3.7 seconds. In terms of top speed, the CSL wins, because the CS reaches 302 km/h, while the CSL hits 307 km/h.

Externally, there are some differences from the CSL. The layout of the taillights is slightly different, and the CS has the new headlights from the facelift, while the CSL has the older ones. The CS also doesn't have a ducktail-style spoiler. Additionally, the CS comes in several new colors and has a new interior. The CS has the same red accents and yellow lighting as the CSL but, of course, with different logos.
In short: the new M4 CS should be seen as a sharper M4 that's a bit less intense, a bit less rare, a bit less light, a bit less distinct, and a bit newer than the limited-edition CSL.
